AusReady: The Asia Pacific Emerging Infectious Diseases Facility is an Australian Government initiative and is funded by the Australian Agency for International Development (AusAID).  Its focus is to mobilise experts to undertake prevention and preparedness work in the region. AusReady is linked to AusAID’s Pandemics and Emerging Infectious Diseases Strategy 2006-2010 which aims to minimise the impact of emerging infectious diseases on the human health and economic development of the Asia-Pacific region.

The Strategy has four linked objectives:

Objective 1: to develop effective capacity to plan and prepare for EIDs and potential pandemics.
Objective 2: to improve the recognition, control and prevention of EIDS.
Objective 3: to strengthen national systems of animal and human health.
Objective 4:  to facilitate the rapid response to outbreaks of EIDs in animals and/or humans.

AusReady’s goals, purpose and outputs are as follows:

Goal

Strengthen capacity for the prevention of, and preparedness for, EIDs in the Asia-Pacific region.

Purpose

Identify and mobilise expertise that will support implementation and review of AusAID’s Pandemics and EIDs Strategy.

Outputs

(i)    A well-managed database of multisectoral and available Advisors;

(ii)   Effective deployment of Advisors; and

(iii)  Synthesis and strategic analyses of deployments in light of other relevant international reporting.

AusReady is managed by two key units of the Australian National University (ANU), the National Centre for Epidemiology and Population Health (NCEPH) and ANU Enterprise Pty Ltd (ANUE).
